Frequently Asked Questions
How does LHR work?
During the 3D-Trilogyice-in-Motion protocol applicator is moved swiftly over your treatment area giving full coverage of high energy pulses. These gradually heat the dermis and permanently affect the ability of the hair follicles to produce new hair. At the same time, it provides a contact cooling system which means your hair removal treatment is virtually sensation free, without damage to the surrounding skin.
Who can have LHR?
LHR treatment is suitable for practically anyone who has unwanted hair, and it can be used successfully in various areas of the face and body. This technology can treat hair colour from golden blonde through to black, across the range of skin tones. Our therapists are trained to assess any underlying problems which may affect your suitability for treatment, which will be determined during your pre-treatment consultation. If you are suitable you will have a patch test to confirm that your skin does not react to the treatment. The wait period can be 24 hours up to two weeks if you are on hormone therapy.
What can I expect to experience during my treatment?
Your treatment will take place in a darkened room with all reflective surfaces covered to ensure no stray light is reflected. You will be given protective goggles to wear, to prevent any light reaching your eyes. The therapist wears different protective goggles so they can see to do the treatment. The handpiece is used in a gliding motion, forwards and backwards motion over the skin. As it does so, the laser light safely and gently passes through the dermis, and is absorbed into the hair root within the follicle, destroying the cells so they no longer produce hair. You may experience a warming sensation in addition to a slight pinkness to the skin.
Which areas can be treated?
LHR can be used practically anywhere where there is hair. This includes – face, arms, underarms, chest, breasts, back, pubic area, buttocks and legs.
How many treatments are needed?
A course of 6-8 treatments is usually recommended. Response to treatments vary from person to person. Your treatment program is devised after your consultation.
How long does a treatment take?
The time varies depending on the area but ranges from 15-60 minutes per treatment.
How long before I can see results?
These are visible from the first session and improve throughout the course of treatment. The greatest improvement will be noticed around your third treatment.
What colour hair can be treated?
All hair colours can be permanently reduced, apart from white and grey hair. Darker hair is most easily treated because the high concentration of melanin gives maximum absorption.
Do I need any downtime?
After LHR you don’t need any downtime, and can return to your daily activities straight away. There are various After Care precautions which you need to take, to protect the treated areas.
Is LHR safe?
Absolutely, LHR is safe because the only laser targets the hair follicles, leaving the surrounding skin unharmed. You may experience a slight warmth or some redness, but this is unusual and should subside within 24 hours.
Can LHR help with ingrown hair?
LHR is an excellent treatment for ingrown hairs, especially if you have coarse or curly hair. As the laser light destroys the hair at the source in the follicle, the hair no longer gets a chance to become ingrown, and you will notice an improvement in the appearance of your skin.
